Mount Barker Community College
Formerly an English teacher and HOD, Leanne has now been a Deputy Principal for the past 9 years and in that time has taken responsibility for everything it is possible to in that role. One area of focus has been around students and mental health – initially connecting with Mindmatters, and later connecting this with Kidsmatters as the whole college was taken on a journey around building Belonging and being mentally healthy.
As a country teacher for her whole teaching career, Leanne has always valued her Professional Association as a way to keep up with the latest and maintain professional relationships with colleagues. She joined the WASSEA Management Committee as a way to professionally extend herself while at the same time giving back to others.
Leanne is passionate about young people being able to get a quality education without having to leave home. She believes that local public schools are amazing places doing amazing things in connecting communities and providing opportunities for students, and that it is our job to ensure that every kid can get what they need at their local public school.
